When Proximate is running on your computer, you'll see its "Cursor + Items" icon appear in your menu bar (macOS) or task bar (Windows).
The icon you see changes to indicate the state of Proximate:

If the mouse pointer is pointing upwards, Proximate is activated. The 3 filled squares indicate that on-screen items are visible. This is what you'll see most of the time.

If the mouse pointer is pointing upwards, Proximate is activated. The
3 empty squares indicate that on-screen items are currently hidden. (...don't forget!)

If the icon looks "broken" like this, with the mouse pointer arrow pointing downwards at the elements and crossed out, then Proximate is not licensed correctly on your computer. Either your free trial has ended, or your license is no longer valid. You may need to update the payment details for your billing method on file. Please submit a ticket if you need assistance reactivating Proximate.
